Improving Students’ Critical Thinking through Oral Questioning in Mathematics Teaching

The use of effective oral questioning in the teaching mathematics can stimulate students' thinking and encourage them to think critically. As a result, this study was carried out identify questions used by teachers when mathematics. This critical thinking. qualitative form case conducted six schools Malaysian state with total participants. They were chosen on purpose based specific criteria set researcher. data collected using observation methods, interviews, field notes gain an in-depth picture phenomena studied. findings analyzed continuous comparison method themes subthemes involved. researchers several methods improve validity reliability study, including triangulation, consent participants, peer reviews, audit trails, researcher bias, long period field. According findings, frequently three types their students critically: prompting questions, reflective clarification questions. These are at encouraging critically trying solve mathematical problems. implies that should caution asking so is stimulated, rather than focusing memorizing important algorithms procedures.
